COLUMBIA, Mo. Veterans are almost twice as likely as the general public to have chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and heart failure. Therefore, veterans may require more assistance from informal caregivers, especially as outpatient treatment becomes more common. A University of Missouri researcher evaluated strain and satisfaction among informal caregivers of veterans with chronic illnesses. The findings show that more than one third of veterans' caregivers report high levels of strain as a result of taking care of their relatives; yet, on average, caregivers also report being satisfied with their caregiving responsibilities.

Bonnie Wakefield, an associate research professor in the MU Sinclair School of Nursing, says the majority of caregiving responsibilities belong to veterans' immediate family members, often their wives. Of the caregivers Wakefield surveyed, nearly half reported they felt they had no choice when it came to caring for their relatives.

"Veterans with chronic illnesses have many care needs that often go unnoticed," said Wakefield. "Caregivers help with those needs, such as cooking meals, managing medications and giving moral support."

Wakefield found that only eight percent of caregivers reported that they had high levels of depression, but nearly one-third of caregivers reported high levels of strain. Caregivers' depression and strain usually resulted from lack of coping strategies and from caring for veterans with lower self-reported health.

"Having a lot of caregiving demands doesn't necessarily means that caregivers aren't satisfied," Wakefield said. "Some people get satisfaction from helping others."

Caregivers who reported greater satisfaction tended to have more outside help, such as support from friends and relatives. Also, those with higher satisfaction levels had developed more strategies to cope, such as regular exercise.

Wakefield suggested caregivers seek outside assistance through websites like www.myhealth.va.gov and www.caregiver.va.gov, websites that provide health information and resources to veterans and their caregivers. She also suggested that clinicians, especially nurses, take time to monitor the caregivers' stress levels and offer concrete suggestions about ways to alleviate stress.

The study, "Strain and Satisfaction in Caregivers of Veterans with Chronic Illness," was published in Research in Nursing & Health and was funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI). Wakefield's coauthors include researchers from the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the MU School of Medicine. Wakefield also is a core investigator for the Center for Comprehensive Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) at the Iowa City VA Health Care System in Iowa City, Iowa.

Uganda Feb coffee exports up 26 pct on good weather

KAMPALA (Reuters) - Uganda's coffee exports in February jumped 26 percent from the same month last year, helped by better weather that yielded a bigger crop, a source at the state-run Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) told Reuters on Wednesday.

Uganda, which is east Africa's third-biggest economy, was Africa's leading exporter of the beans last year according to statistics from the International Coffee Organisation (ICO).

Earnings from the beans are a key source of foreign exchange for Uganda, which primarily cultivates the robusta variety.

Uganda beat the UCDA's own forecast to ship 244,319 60-kg bags of coffee last month compared to 193,965 bags exported in February 2011. The exports eclipsed UCDA's prediction of 200,000 bags for February.

"We haven't had drought this year like we did last year so that has ensured that yields have been good," the source said.

"It's been a good mix of rains plus sufficient dry spells, which have helped in ensuring a quicker drying process."

Last month the body revised its projection for the country's 2011/2012 coffee season export to 3.2 million bags from a previous forecast of 3 million bags, citing the impact of yields from maturing new trees.

Fullhouse Cafe at Suria Sabah | KKMOI.COM

SERVE NO PORK
There is a big new house in the neighborhood! It doesn?t belong to a rich expat or datuk, but to three friends Chris Shaw, Eric Chong and Jeffrey Tsang who are trying their hand at a new business venture. It?s not a normal house, but you?ll feel right at home when you visit.

The Homeliest Non-Home Ever

Fullhouse is a themed lifestyle store and cafe that has a car parked inside, water fountain, topiary, birds, and clothes, among other things.

Stuff To Do While You Wait For Your Food

No, we?re not joking. There?s a green mini that?s a lot cuter than Mr. Bean?s yellow ride on the first floor entrance. We?re not sure if there?s a working engine in there for you to take it for a joyride, but we?re pretty sure you can sit in it to take your poser pics in. Note: Kids (and some adults) would love this!

Also, we weren?t kidding about the clothes either. Thank goodness the wardrobe doesn?t belong to someone?s Aunty Wilma.

They do however hold brand new women?s clothes you can try on (in a fitting room) and take home for a price.

Interestingly, like a scene out of a woman?s bedroom two hours before her first date, there?s a bed in there with accessories spread across for easy picking. This will go deep with some ladies, who won?t be able to resist grabbing some ornaments to decorate themselves with.

Now that you?ve seen some trinkets and stuff, let?s take a look at the space!

Occupying 6 shoplots on 2 floors in Suria Sabah, this 7,000+ sq.ft concept cafe is a franchise from Kuala Lumpur. As the biggest standalone eatery in a Sabah mall, we were delighted to see Fullhouse ?full? both of the days we visited!

Ground Floor

If you enter from the side entrance on the ground floor, you?ll see the kitchen on the right side where drinks and food are prepared.

Once you are in there?s a dining area and an opulent velvet sofa facing the main entrance.

We love how much natural light it gets during the day.

The ground floor also has a raised platform stage with speakers, some dining tables.

Taking the stairs up, we imagine you?ll be more amused with what you?ll see.

First Floor

The dining area on the first floor is massive by mall standards. There?s the main dining area, a garden area, and also the outdoor area where the verandah is. Check it out!

Main Dining Area

Garden Area

The access into the restaurant from the first floor is through the garden area.

There?s a water fountain in the middle, which sets a rather serene and comforting mood for diners.

Verandah Area

For those who prefer the open air instead of air-conditioning, there?s an outdoor area with a verandah overlooking a major artery going into the city.

This is also where smoking is permitted.

Big Enough for a Small Wedding Ceremony & Other Themed Parties

The homely setting is big enough to hold themed parties.

In fact, Chris Shaw?s wedding ceremony was held there the day before, complete with vow exchanges, live music entertainment, and a buffet spread with more than 100 people zipping in and out of the space.

By looks alone, we were impressed with what we saw. But what about the food you say?!?! Most people loved the food at the wedding as there were lots of quality ingredients that went into the buffet spread. But we read some lackluster reviews online about their regular menu, but wasn?t going to knock it until we tried it.

So, we tried it!

Food

Smoked Salmon Salad

We ordered a Smoked Salmon Salad to start (RM 16.90). This was lovely with the fanned mango slices, a milder and fresher alternative to capers. There?s nothing to complain about unless you can find me other places in KK that serve twirls of smoked salmon that doesn?t involve paying for an expensive hotel buffet.

We are just glad there?s a place to go to for our smoked fish fix.

Al-Funghi Spaghetti

The ?butter base? al-funghi spaghetti was? buttery. I personally prefer olive oil with my pastas (which are options they have with other types of pasta dishes), but I can imagine other people really digging the butter thing. The Asianized-dish came with a generous amount of oyster mushrooms and bits of bird chillies in them. Warning: Spicy-spicy stuff!

Admittedly, we?ve eaten better spaghetti outside of Italy, but Fullhouse is more of a family casual cafe-concept restaurant and not a fine dining establishment. I thought it was acceptable for the price and ambiance (RM15.90).

NZ-Ribeye Steak

The steak, however, was one of the best pieces of beef I?ve had for RM36.90 in KK. Saying that, the sauce didn?t do the meat justice. Will I have it again? You bet I will!

Loved the marbling and texture, and while it isn?t as fine as an aged Angus or Wagyu steak, it is the best it can get at the thirty ringgit mark. My favorite dish there so far!

Lamb Chops

GourmetSailor had the lamb shoulder for RM30.60. The portion size of meat was generous, but the sides were lean, which we liked. Low carb anyone?

He said they could do with tenderizing the lamb more, but this is not something we want to make a big deal out of, because it?s not (unless it becomes a feature). If this can be improved pretty quickly, it?ll be dandy.

Are We Making Excuses for Them?

Well not really, because we take context into account.

Fact: We like more places to eat in KK.
Fact: We love awesome environments to hang out with our friends and family.
Fact: We love reasonable prices for reasonably decent food.

And Fullhouse meets all of those and more. BRAVO!

Sure, any new establishment has room for improvement. But they?ve only been open for less than a week and have performed admirably by any standard. I can?t wait to hang out there again if it?s only for a pot of tea and to try a pair of earrings on.

Well, maybe I?ll order that steak again.

So go check it out yourself, sport.

Opening Hours

11:30am ? 10:00pm Daily (Last order 9:30pm)

A Reputable Overview of the Harry Lorayne Memory Power Course ...

The Harry Lorayne Memory Power course happens to be study course created by one of the world?s best known memory experts. Harry Lorayne is considered ?The Yoda of Memory Training? and quite a few of his books ? many of which are now classics and bestsellers ? were written specifically to help ordinary people improve their memories. Our focus in this assessment is to provide you with information that will explain to you the powerful methods Mr. Lorayne teaches in his Complete Memory Course.

There is nobody more competent to teach you about memory than Harry Lorayne. He?s been featured in a great many magazines and has turned up on TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He?s been famous for his success in this area since the 1950s. The Memory Book: The Classic Guide to Improving Your Memory at Work, at School, and at Play, released together with Jerry Lucas in 1986, enjoyed one year on the New York Times Bestseller list. He is additionally an established magician, primarily with card tricks, and has written many books on the subject. His television show in 1951 was known as ?The Professional Magic Show.? Among his favorite ways of demonstrating his incredible mind was to have every person in his audience ? sometimes as many as 1,500 people ? introduce themselves to him before the show. Once the show commenced, he would have everyone rise up and, as he named them correctly, they could then sit down. Nobody was actually left standing upright! With this in depth study course, the methods and techniques of Mr. Lorayne will be taught to you by the world?a foremost expert in memory.

The Harry Lorayne Memory Power course gives you a considerable amount of material that can be very helpful for improving your memory. Many people who have benefited from this program were overwhelmed at the scope of the materials use ? much more information than they needed. The course features four CDs or cassettes in addition to a bonus DVD and, considering how much information is included, the retail price of $149.95 is quite reasonable. It might not be useful for you to utilize the full course, because your needs are less. If that?s the case, Harry Lorayne has authored many books that can assist you with your memory. You could even stretch your budget by getting an used copy of the book that you are interested in or, perhaps, the paperback version. On Amazon, you may even acquire some of his books for your Kindle. However, in order to become a memory expert, and learn all you can, buying the complete course is a good bargain.

Harry Lorayne taught a number of people and is also responsible for the training of corporate staff members, using his video course, ?Memory Power? as part of that training program. Business managers, along with businessmen and women, have long realized how important a good memory is, especially for someone engaged in sales. One of the primary important skills, especially in the area of sales, is to be able to remember someone?s name easily ? and correctly ? every time you meet them. Consider this: any time you meet someone who remembers not only your name, your spouse?s name, your phone number, and other bits and pieces of personal information, you are fascinated, and are more likely to do business with this person. Do you rely on your mobile phone, iPad, or other technological gizmos to make notes when you?ve just met someone new, or finished with an important meeting? What would you do if, suddenly, that piece of technology was not available? Would you easily remember the most basic things about this important person you just met?

If you happen to do some searching online, or at Barnes & Noble, you?ll find a plethora of books and courses on self-improvement. It boggles the mind how many are on the market. Nevertheless, what you won?t find are a lot of training courses that focus on improving your memory. Even when you do discover a small sampling of courses on memory training, they usually aren?t written by someone who has the skills, background, and success with memory training as Harry Lorayne does. The Harry Lorayne Memory Power training course isn?t for everybody, but it?s definitely worth purchasing if you?re seriously interested in making significant improvements in your ability to remember names, numbers and other important information.
