Pfizer is recalling 28 lots of birth control pills sold nationwide because of packaging errors that could result in unintended pregnancy, the Food and Drug Administration announced.
Women taking Lo/Ovral?-28 (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) and Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol? (generic) should use a different form of birth control immediately, the company said.
The pills were manufactured and packaged by Pfizer but sold under the Akrimax Pharmaceuticals brand. Pfizer found that some packages contain an inexact count of the proper mix of tablets or that the tablets may be out of sequence. In both cases, the errors could lead to unintended pregnancy.
Women should return the product to their pharmacies. Click here to see the lots that are being recalled.
